Re: Preparing well for Parent-Student-Teacher interviews
The following letter relates to the article which appeared on the front page of our newsletter (Issue 09 2019).
Your child's Semester 1 Report contains descriptive feedback from their teacher. The feedback contains data of a quantitative and qualitative nature. It describes the level of proficiency they have attained in each course of study. ·
The task before your child now is to use this feedback, in a process of self-reflection, to achieve continued growth in their learning.
The process of self-reflection requires their consideration of five questions:
When you and your child attend the parent-student-teacher interviews, next week, the focus of each interview will be on your child addressing these questions. In preparation for the interview please encourage him/her to engage with the questions before the interviews, and be prepared to participate in a conversation with you and their teachers about their progress in learning to date so that all can agree on specific and realistic learning goals to be achieved for next semester.
The objective of a parent-student-teacher interview is for the student to gain a clear sense of direction for continued growth in learning in each course of study. They will do this best through thoughtful self reflettion coupled with the guidance and support of parents and teachers.
